Local Carers

We're here to answer any questions you may have

How soon can I receive care?

Once we know your needs, we will approach our local Northwood carers, who usually respond within 24-48 hours.

As soon as we know their availability we will send you their profiles. It’s then up to you to decide which carer you like and we can book that carer straightaway.

We recognise that it is helpful to meet a carer in advance of agreeing to an engagement. Where this cannot be easily arranged in person, we encourage you to arrange a video call (e.g. via Zoom) with your recommended carer.

How much does home care from TrustonTap cost?

Prices range from £20 – £30/hour depending on your care needs and carer experience.

How do I find the right carer?

We will send you a selection of profiles for carers in the Northwood area, and you choose your carer dependent on your specific requirements.

We will ensure that you have the same carer each time, we will not send you different carers without contacting you first. This is usually only due to sickness or leave.

What checks are done on TrustonTap carers?

We carefully screen and interview all our trusted carers via a multi-stage recruitment process to ensure that all our carers are competent, compassionate, kind, honest and reliable.

Everyone is fully-vetted and DBS background checked.

Plus, we obtain two references on all carers that we take on, to ensure the good character of the people who will be supporting you.

We also conduct thorough individual interviews.

Over the last 3 years, we have taken on less than 10% of carers that have applied to us.

We only list those individuals who we would be happy to recommend to our own relatives.

Understanding the Different Types of Dementia

Dementia isn’t a single condition — it’s an umbrella term for a group of disorders that affect memory, thinking, and behaviour. While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type, there are others that people and families should be aware of. Each form of dementia brings its own symptoms and challenges, so understanding the differences can help you get the right diagnosis and support for your loved one.

How to Look After Someone with Dementia: A Comprehensive Guide

Caring for someone with dementia involves balancing medical, emotional, and practical needs while preserving dignity and independence. A person-centred approach focuses on routines, preferences, and meaningful activities, supported by tailored care plans and networks of family, professionals, and community groups. Daily care covers communication, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, safety, and managing behavioural changes. Caregivers should adapt environments, use clear communication, and plan ahead for health, transport, and end-of-life decisions. Self-care for carers is essential to avoid burnout and ensure sustainable, compassionate support.

Understanding the Difference Between Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease

Dementia and Alzheimer’s are often used as if they mean the same thing. They don’t. Dementia describes symptoms that affect memory, thinking and daily life; Alzheimer’s is one cause of those symptoms. Knowing the difference helps families get the right tests and support—faster.

Northwood is a neighbourhood in northwest London, England. On the border with Hertfordshire, the area is just 14.5 miles (23.3 km) away from Charing Cross in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Since 1965, Northwood has been in Greater London. It was originally part of Ruislip, Middlesex.

Both Northwood and Northwood Hills are served by stations on the Metropolitan line of the London Underground. Northwood had a population of 10,949 at the 2011 census, down from 11,068 in 2008, while Northwood Hills had a population of 11,578, up from 10,833 in 2001.

Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve is adjacent to Northwood. It was also used for location filming of the Goods’ and Leadbetters’ houses and surrounding streets in the BBC TV sitcom The Good Life acting as Surbiton.

Northwood post town stretches into two contiguous neighbourhoods in Hertfordshire, named Eastbury and Moor Park. A triangular area of Northwood, including the old High Street, Chester Road, and Hallowell Road, is designated as a Local Architectural Special Interest, a restriction designed to protect its ornate Victorian houses made from high-quality bricks. There are 22 listed buildings (for their architecture) in the area.

Our local Northwood carers can provide the care and support you need, including companionship, transport & errands, gardening, personal care, hygiene, paperwork, dementia care, shopping, and food preparation in the Northwood area.
